Naomi Block Stern is a sister of Linda Garfunkel's first cousin's wife Suzie Meyerowitz. She was a student leader from Hunter College in NYC, and was selected by Eleanor Roosevelt to visit the White House in December of 1941. The meeting wound up during Winston Churchill's famous Christmas visit to the White House to meet with President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Naomi was invited to dinner with the President, the Prime Minister and 18 others seated a large table. She was seated between Prime Minister Churchill and FDR's personal lawyer, Judge Samuel I. Rosenman. Churchill spoke to her and asked her who she was and why she was there. Later she heard FDR and the Prime Minister talking about ships, which eventually would be about the Lend Lease program passed in March, 1941.
