Monday Nov 08, 2021
Caligula’s Horse, hailing from Brisbane, Australia, are a leading light in contemporary progressive metal worldwide. The band released their fifth studio album Rise Radiant in May of 2020 just as the pandemic was hitting and as with many bands worldwide, postponed a lot of their plans and schedules. They finally return to the live stage in January of 2022 at the first ever UNCAGED festival in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney so we had a chat to guitarist Sam Vallen about the upcoming shows and the impact of not being able to play live.

The Rockpit Podcast #35: Derek Boyer - Suffocation
Thursday Oct 21, 2021
Thursday Oct 21, 2021
New York death metal pioneers SUFFOCATION are about to release their new live album, Live In North America, on November 12th via Nuclear Blast Records. SUFFOCATION created the template for the brutal death metal genre in the early 90s. Landmark albums such as Effigy Of The Forgotten and Pierced From Within also went on to inspire the birth of the tech-death and slam death metal genres. With the departure of original vocalist Frank Mullen, the band marks an end of an era with the live album recorded during his last North American tour in 2018.
We spoke to bassist Derek Boyer about the live recordings as he shares some memories from that tour and the final farewell of Frank Mullen.

The Rockpit Podcast #34: Peter Tägtgren - Hypocrisy
Tuesday Oct 12, 2021
Tuesday Oct 12, 2021
With governments finally admitting that UFOs do in fact exist, and humanity attempting to heal from a state of recent crisis, the timing couldn’t be more appropriate for the newest addition to the HYPOCRISY catalog: WORSHIP, due to be released November 26th via Nuclear Blast Records. Aptly titled, the album cover shows a mass of humans reaching up mindlessly to the sky as glowing spaceships shaped like the HYPOCRISY crosses beam down to descend upon earthen civilizations and Mayan temples.
Designed by artist Blake Armstrong (Kataklysm, In Flames, Carnifex, etc.), WORSHIP’s artwork speaks to the history of the relationship between humanity and extraterrestrials. “They’re coming back to collect,” explains founder and HYPOCRISY mastermind Peter Tägtgren.
We talk to Peter to find out more on that subject as well as how the new album came together since their last release back in 2013.

The Rockpit Podcast #33: Anabelle Iratni - Cradle Of Filth
Monday Sep 27, 2021
Monday Sep 27, 2021
Belched from Hell’s depths into the rustic charms of the Witch County, Suffolk thirty long and disturbing years ago, CRADLE OF FILTH are undisputed giants of the heavy metal realm. Imperious purveyors of a perennially unique strain of dark, dastardly and wilfully extreme metal, with deep roots in the worlds of gothic horror and occult curiosity, the band led by Dani Filth has weathered three decades of tumult and trial, earning a formidable reputation as both a singular creative force and one of the most riotously entertaining live bands the metal world has ever produced.
We speak to the newest member of Cradle Of Filth, Anabelle Iratni (Vocals, Keys, Lyre, Orchestration) who was announced into the band earlier this year to talk about joining the band, working on the latest album "Existence Is Futile" and how her classical training has provided a vehicle for her new role in Cradle Of Filth.

The Rockpit Podcast #32: Steve ‘Zetro‘ Souza - Exodus
Saturday Sep 25, 2021
Saturday Sep 25, 2021
When we think of the phrase Bonded By Blood, we think of two things: a brotherhood that is meant to outlast the trials of war, pain, and time... and the almighty EXODUS. With a bond forged in youth and decades-old friendship, the undisputed masters of thrash metal return with their eleventh studio album: PERSONA NON GRATA due to be released 19th November via Nuclear Blast Records. Literally translating to “an unwelcome” or “unacceptable” person, PERSONA NON GRATA touches on themes of modern societal disgust and degradation. “
We had a chance to talk to Exodus vocalist Steve "Zetro" Souza about the new album and we get into the beginnings of the new songs, working around covid and Gary Holt's schedule with Slayer at the time. We also discuss Steve's history with music and what band started it all for him plus get the latest on drummer Tom Hunting's health.

The Rockpit Podcast #31: Jeff Walker - Carcass
Sunday Sep 12, 2021
Sunday Sep 12, 2021
The wait is (nearly) over… English extreme metal legends CARCASS will release their long-awaited, 7th studio album, “Torn Arteries,” on September 17th with Nuclear Blast Records.
In 2019 the band released their first single in over 5 years “Under The Scalpel Blade,” followed by a 4 song EP entitled Despicable (October 2020), setting a potent precedent for the full length album coming in September: “Torn Arteries.” With the album title itself referencing an old demo created by original drummer Ken Own back in the 80’s, “Torn Arteries” sits as a bookend on the modern side of the CARCASS discography, connecting directly back to where everything began over 30 years ago.
We had a chance to talk to frontman Jeff Walker about the new album and how they followed their return album Surgical Steel which was released back in 2013, which was the last time we chatted. We also discussed their tour in Australia last year for the Download Festival which was cancelled due to covid and whether he thinks touring will come back in the same way.

The Rockpit Podcast #30: Andreas Kisser - Sepultura
Tuesday Aug 17, 2021
Tuesday Aug 17, 2021
While the pandemic paralyzed the entire world and prevented bands from touring, Latin America’s biggest metal export SEPULTURA refused to sit back and act like an animal trapped in a cage. Like the flowers growing out of the deceased bird’s body depicted on the stunning colourful cover artwork by Eduardo Recife, the thrash metal pioneers from Belo Horizonte made good use of their unexpected free time to start a project that kept them busy throughout the entirety of 2020.
Their new live album “SepulQuarta” was recorded from the safety of their homes with several guests including Devin Townsend, Scott Ian (Anthrax), Danko Jones, Matt Heafy (Trivium), and many more recording a Sepultura track together with the band. We spoke to Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser about how the album came together plus we get into discussions on covid, influences and much more.
