Costumes with Trayce Gigi Field

Thursday Sep 29, 2022

Thursday Sep 29, 2022

A League of Their Own costume designer Trayce Gigi Field joins host Carolyn Bergier (Dyking Out podcast) to talk all things costume and wardrobe. Costumes on this show truly bring the characters and era to life. But it's no easy task having to replicate uniforms from the 1940s with materials available today, much less for different teams, leagues, and stages of wear. How much research goes into designing costumes for a period show, and how did they find out what closeted queer people were wearing? Do couples color coordinate? What does an outfit say about a character's story arc? We dive into these questions and much more.

A League of Their Own showrunner Will Graham joins host Carolyn Bergier (Dyking Out podcast) to go behind-the-scenes of Episode 6, which he also wrote and directed (nbd). Will sheds light on which parts were inspired by actual events, as well as the character choices that were inspired by real people. Also, does Clance really not see that Max is queer? We also get into the Wizard of Oz of it all, and why the bar night and Bert's party have drastically different endings. Plus, find out how Rosie O'Donnell came to play Vi, how much pizza talk is too much, and much more!

There's so much happening for our leads in episode 5, and who better to walk us through this transformative episode than its writer? Mfoniso Udofia (A League of Their Own, Her Portmanteau) joins host Carolyn Bergier (Dyking Out podcast) to unpack all of the emotions that Max, Carson, and Lupe are struggling with. What is going through Max's mind when she meets Bert? Why does the Toni/Max fight hit so hard? And how did the writer's room navigate conversations about privilege in such a refreshing and authentic way? Plus, you'll learn the origin of the "have a catch" vs. "play catch" debate. And let's pour one Dr. Pepper out for Gary and his "nice" horse sheets, shall we? Huge thanks to Mfoniso for all of her thoughtful and illuminating insights on this pivotal episode!

Michelle Badillo (One Day At A Time, Search Party) steps up to the plate to recap the fourth episode of A League of Their Own. And lucky for us, she just so happens to be the credited writer on the ep! Michelle fills in host Carolyn Bergier (Dyking Out podcast) on her process for writing the horniest scene of her career, and it's not the scene you think! Or maybe it is? Also is Max a bad friend, and possibly a bad pitcher? (Okay, not a BAD pitcher, but not as good as she thought). Speaking of, does anyone care about Gary's dreams? Plus, we talk about Lupe's disdain of Esti, Shirley's endearing homophobia, and how despite playing not baseball, Clance is truly an all-star. We also get some behind-the-scenes details on how the Peaches end up at a convent and the original game plan for tripping up on the road.

A League of Their Own writer and executive producer Desta Tedros Reff joins host Carolyn Bergier (Dyking Out podcast) to give the play-by-play on Episode 3, "The Cut Off." A tent revival comes to town, but Max only wants to be saved from having to tell Toni about her new job. And if you like secrets, they're everywhere in this episode; from Clance's mysterious behavior, to practices at dawn, to nursing injuries, to what the preacher's wife has been up to outside of the tent. Plus, Carson and Shirley play chaperone on Greta's date, and there is definitely transmission (but not in the way Shirley thinks). We finally hear from Charlie but are more focused on Guy's egg. Also, #JusticeForGary.

Comedian, writer, and actor Jess Henderson (Hulu's Shrill) joins host Carolyn Bergier (Dyking Out podcast) to slide into the depths of episode 2 of A League Of Their Own. While Jess and Carolyn may have a bone/shell to pick with the serving of the crab, they thoroughly enjoyed the storylines, smooches, and costuming in this episode. What do we learn about Max and Clance's freindship? Is Max a Scorpio or a Virgo? Can the Peaches survive charm school? Why does Carson dress like a pre-school teacher? Plus, Carolyn is still sweating from Greta's femme top energy.

Podcaster and writer Jess Rothschild (Hot Takes and Deep Dives) joins host Carolyn Bergier (Dyking Out podcast) to dive into the pilot episode of Prime Video's new series, A League Of Their Own. Jess and Carolyn share a love of Madonna and Rosie O'Donnell, who were their gateway into the 1992 film that the series is based on. They weren't sure how the new series would hold up without their icons, but it's safe to say that Abbi Jacobson and crew have made the case for retelling the story of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. The pilot episode sets up our main characters, rounds out the squad, and has us guessing which love stories will play out over the remaining seven episodes.
