He lied about his age, joined the Texas Rangers in 1878, and was assigned the most lawless district in the state. His law enforcement career came to an end in 1932 when he was forced into retirement. During that long, diverse and colorful career, Jefferson Davis Milton worked 32 years with one arm. He had lost use of his left arm in a gunfight in Fairbank, Arizona Territory.
On today's program historian Ron Stewart shares the amazing story of this legendary lawman. And we talk about the ghost town of Fairbank, the San Pedro Rver country, and the Coronado expedition of 1540. This program is a shared adventure of epic proportions.

In Kansas, on Route 66 it is less than 15 miles from the Missouri to Oklahoma state line. When it comes to iconic Route 66, the Sunflower State may be short on miles but as we learned in our conversation with Pamela Mitchell, it is long on smiles.
Mitchell is the chairperson for the tourism board at the Baxter Springs chamber of commerce. So, in our road trip inspiring, smile inducing discussion we talked about history, attractions, detours, time capsule lodging, sports trivia (Mickey Mantle launched his career in Baxter Springs), and of course, venerable old cafes that serve up great pie.
Coming soon, a blog post on the Jim Hinckley's America website will provide more information about the places we talked about today.
