In 1665, the plague came to the village of Eyam in Derbyshire. Plague carrying fleas nestled in cloth which came from London. Delivered to a local tailor, the fleas would soon spread disease throughout the village. The village would make a choice that would help change our understanding of the spread of dangerous diseases. They would go into quarantine in order to halt the spread. This is their story.

We sit down with Dr John Woolf, the author of The Wonders, to talk about the Victorian Freak Shows and their performers. From Joseph Merrick (The Elephant Man) to Chang and Eng, we will discuss their lives and also the life of "The Greatest Showman" P.T Barnum. Join us for this discussion about how the Victorians viewed the performers, their alternatives away from the Freak Shows and how some went on to live normal lives after their fame.
