Tragedy strikes everyday. What does this tell us? First, tragedies serve as warnings reminding us to be ready since we don't know when our last day on earth will be. Secondly, Jesus reminds us that tragedies are not the result of punishment from a wrathful and vengeful god, but rather God is patient with us and gives us every opportunity in this life to repent and return to him.

Today we celebrate the third of Jesus' epiphanies, the wedding at Cana. In this first miracle Jesus is doing much more than helping a couple in their time of need. He is revealing himself to be the true bridegroom of humanity as foretold by the prophets like Isaiah in the first reading. Today we reflect on the depth of the relationship Christ wants with us, a relationship like that between husband and wife.

We gather today for another Christmas celebration, but with all the festivities we can often forget about what the true message of Christmas is, the same message proclaimed all those year ago by the angel to the shepherds. Today that same message is proclaimed anew to us: Do not be afraid, a savior has been born for you and here is a sign by which you will know him. Merry Christmas.

Today is Gaudete Sunday where we are commanded to Rejoice! What do you rejoice in? Where do you find your joy? As Christians our joy is not found in gifts and presents, but in the Lord who is coming to us and is ever near, most especially in the Eucharist.
