The Flicky Podcast reviews the 2023 Oscar frontrunner, Everything Everywhere All At Once. John and Christopher discuss why this film ultimately fails to live up to its hype and it really boils down to one thing, the story. The boys talk about how they liked the acting, the professional filmmaking, and the smaller, quieter scenes in the film. However, the plot is messy and chaotic. John and Christopher are left feeling disappointed after looking forward to seeing the movie.

The Flicky Podcast is back with a review of The Banshees of Inisherin, a film that is nominated for 9 Academy Awards. Both John and Christopher are fans of Martin McDonagh's work and were looking forward to viewing his latest film. However, Christopher differs with John in how the plot was executed.

Two episodes in a week? Is the world ending? The Flicky Podcast is back and they're beginning to review the awards circuit. They start with Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, and the flick is several tiers below the original. John and Christopher criticize the lack of character development, convoluted mystery, and cartoonish villain. Even though it has entertaining moments, the film's lack of heart seeps through every scene. The boys can't look past the film's plot holes, weak characters, and lack of Benoit Blanc.

NOTE: John named the file for this episode ASS ONION...tells you everything you need to know about his opinion.

The Flicky Podcast is back with a review of the cultural touchstone: The Sound of Music. Christopher has been telling John for years that he hates this film, but as the episode unfolds...he learns that he is really apathetic to the movie. John learns just how huge the movie was, and how many popular songs originated from it, and they discuss how it's professionally made with a low-stakes story. They discuss how weak 1965 was a weak year in film, how underrated Robert Wise is, and come away with muted feelings about The Sound of Music.

The Flicky Podcast is back and is ready to spread post-Christmas jeer. Their target this week is the first sequel in the Die Hard franchise: Die Hard 2. Huge fans of the first, John and Christopher discuss how this was a lazy attempt to cash in on the success of the original. It is everything Die Hard is not: stupid, surface, two-dimensional, and unimpressive. The boys are shocked by the reviews it received and how it didn't kill off the series.

Friday Dec 16, 2022

The Flicky Podcast reviews The Holiday only after Christopher complains about Pentatonix, shares a story about the pleasures of using mass transit, discloses how he's become obsessive about Talking Heads, and quizzes John on 70s cinema. The boys finally discuss how The Holiday has a solid starting point, only to fall apart by the end due to bad pacing, little character development, and a plot that doesn't know what the main story is. John and Christopher recognize its likability and charm despite the film's glaring flaws. They pose important questions about The Holiday: Is it a Christmas, or holiday, movie at all and what is this movie even about?

Sunday Dec 04, 2022

This week on the Flicky Podcast, John and Christopher tackle Netflix's production of All Quiet on the Western Front. Before diving into the film, the boys discuss who they think are the most underrated directors in the history of cinema. While viewing All Quiet on the Western Front, John wonders what this particular version of the story is trying to say to the viewing audience. John and Christopher compare and contrast the different versions of the story, and come away concluding that it's a flawed film that should be watched.

The Flicky Podcast is back this week and our episode begins with a ranking of Quentin Tarantino's films before moving onto a review of 1989's Road House. Firmly in the "So Bad It's Good" category, John and Christopher discuss just how dumb the movie is. However, despite its stupidity, or maybe because of it, the boys enjoyed the action film as it dives into farcical territory.

Friday Nov 11, 2022

The Flicky Podcast is back after an absence! The boys begin with discussing why they won't be reviewing The Rings of Power anymore, and drive home how awful they think the series is. They then shift gears to review the classic action-adventure film, Raiders of the Lost Ark. In a rare occurrence for the show, both of our hosts love the movie. Instead of taking it apart, the boys talk about what makes this film a classic and some tidbits about its production and upcoming sequel.

The Flicky Podcast is back with a review of the second episode of the Lord of the Rings series from Amazon. Starting with the rumor of another media merger, the boys deep dive into an episode that they thought was better than the premiere, but still isn't up to snuff. John and Christopher wonder what could've been is the property was in better hands.
