We begin the interview with a look at the recent UK High Court ruling on the extradition of Julian Assange to the US. Previously, the US had vetoed any resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. We assess Israel's recent record annexation of 800 hectares of Palestinian land since 1993 in the West Bank and ask why the West is failing to impose sanctions or enforce international law. We analyze the recent Islamic State terrorist attack in Russia and the European countries that have raised their terror alert levels in response, and ask whether Islamic terrorism is on the rise. In this episode of The Source, we speak with journalist and international law and human rights lawyer Dimitri Lascaris about the recent audio leak on the Taurus cruise missile, also known as the wiretap affair. This leak revealed how high-ranking German air force officers discussed the use of the Taurus cruise missile in Ukraine to attack Russia. This contradicted the public statements of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who had ruled out sending the missile to Ukraine as this could lead to a drastic escalation of the situation and turn Germany into a belligerent. We then examine the significance of a recent New York Times article revealing that the CIA maintained 12 bases in Ukraine near the Russian border prior to the Ukraine war. We analyze the competing accounts of the recent killing of 118 Palestinian civilians, including 760 injured, who were attempting to collect food from aid trucks on al-Rashid Street in Gaza. Finally, we discuss the recent International Court of Justice hearings on Israel's long-standing occupation of Palestinian territories and find out what outcome to expect.

In this episode of The Source, we talk to Lawrence Wilkerson, retired Army colonel and former chief of staff to former Secretary of State Colin Powell, about Ukraine, the Julian Assange case and Gaza. We assess the state of the war in Ukraine after its two-year anniversary on February 24. We also look at why the mainstream media does not commemorate the US invasion of Iraq with the same qualitative and quantitative coverage every year on March 30, an invasion that was not only based on the lie of weapons of mass destruction, but also violated international law and killed 300,000 civilians. We then compare the cases of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, who recently died in mysterious circumstances in a Russian prison. Finally, we examine progress on Israel's stated goal of eliminating Hamas and the impending Israeli ground invasion of Rafah.
ABOUT LAWRENCE WILKERSON: Lawrence Wilkerson is currently a Senior Fellow at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft and formerly a Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Government and Public Policy at the College of Williams and Mary. Lawrence Wilkerson’s last positions in government were as Secretary of State Colin Powell’s Chief of Staff (2002-05), Associate Director of the State Department’s Policy Planning staff under the directorship of Ambassador Richard N. Haass, and member of that staff responsible for East Asia and the Pacific, political-military and legislative affairs (2001-02). Before serving at the State Department, Wilkerson served 31 years in the U.S. Army. During that time, he was a member of the faculty of the U.S. Naval War College (1987 to 1989), Special Assistant to General Powell when he was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (1989-93), and Director and Deputy Director of the U.S. Marine Corps War College at Quantico, Virginia (1993-97). Wilkerson retired from active service in 1997 as a colonel, and began work as an advisor to General Powell. He has also taught national security affairs in the Honors Program at the George Washington University. He is currently working on a book about the first George W. Bush administration.

In this episode, we summarize the main points addressed by Assange's defence council during what may be the final appeal hearing in the case of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. The outcome of this case will determine if Assange can appeal once more before a UK court or if he enters the extradition process. The defence raised several grounds for appeal before two High Court judges. This was the first time the defence team had an opportunity to present their arguments, which countered some aspects of the district judge’s initial ruling.
